My name is Jaconel Janssen. Originally from the Netherlands, I have been practising Pilates since 2000 and qualified as a Pilates teacher in London in 2005. When I moved to Cork in 2007, I set up Pilates People Cork. Passionate about movement, and the many health benefits of good posture and movement, I continue to study and train in this field, and love sharing this with my clients. They feel the benefits of moving more, and perhaps differently, reducing pain, gaining strength, flexibility and balance. In addition to the mat classes, I have added chair-based classes to my programme, which are suited to anyone who prefers not to be on the floor.
In 2015 I trained with Rebekah Rotstein, founder of Buff Bones®, a medically-endorsed system of movement for bone and joint health. I am now a licensed Pilates for Buff Bones instructor.
My interest in foot health, in particular, started after I sustained an ankle and knee injury several years ago. Researching foot and leg rehabilitation, I came across the wonderful work of Katy Bowman of Nutritious Movement and started doing her restorative exercises. The results were immediate and impressive. Recently I undertook her course ‘Healthy Foot Practitioner’ and I am very impressed with this simple, clever, biomechanical approach to foot and whole body health.
